Crispus Attucks Park needs YOUR financial support -- Crispus Attucks Park cocktail fundraiser - Sunday, 11-04-2012

See this message from Bloomingdale resident Austin Pearl.

Crispus Attucks Park Cocktail Party Fundraiser
When: Sunday, November 4th, 3-5 p.m.
Where: The yard of 2024 North Capitol Street NW — overlooking the east arbor in the park.
On November 4th, 3-5pm, Crispus Attucks Development Corporation (CADC) is hosting a cocktail party, fundraiser and information session.
Crispus Attucks Park is operated and maintained by CADC, a non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers and park neighbors. Crispus Attucks Park is not a city park and receives NO money from the government. All maintenance and upkeep is paid for and performed entirely by the CADC Board and generous friends of the park. CADC exists solely on community support. 100% of the parks funds go DIRECTLY to the maintenance, upkeep and development of the park.

This year has been tough one. CADC was challenged as the legal caretaker of the park by an area resident and his family who falsely claimed that they had been operating the park as CADC. Faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the judge ruled in favor of our organization and ordered the family to stay away and cease and desist from representing themselves as CADC. However, this resident is attempting to get that ruling nullified, once again threatening the park that members of our community—past and present—have worked so hard to build.

Unfortunately, we have to fight his claims in court and this frivolous lawsuit has diverted significant funds — donated by our members and other generous neighbors — from the park toward legal fees. The legal fees jeopardize programs like the Yard Squad — neighborhood kids who get paid to maintain the park — as well as future improvements, insurance, and our water bill. It costs roughly $10,000 each year — just to maintain the park — that does not include any additional projects or improvements.

That`s why we need your help. 100% of the parks funds go to maintaining the park. The board members are all unpaid volunteers who believe in Bloomingdale and want to create a safe green space for the entire community.

Join us on Sunday, November 4th from 3-5 p.m. to find out more about Bloomingdale`s hidden gem and meet some of your neighbors! Come meet the board and other volunteers and find out more about what you can do to ensure Crispus Attucks Park remains a beautiful, open and safe space for the community.

We hope to see you there!

If you can`t make it but want to make a generous donation, you can do so on our website .

Here is a Sunday, 11-04-2012 update from Austin Pearl:

Have nothing to do today? Come to the Crispus Attucks Park Fundraiser!
There will be an emergency Crispus Attucks Park pre-meeting prior to the fundraiser at 2:00pm. It is open to all residents whose homes border the park or those residents that live anywhere in Bloomingdale but regularly use the park. The bottom line is, if you really care about the future of the park, please attend the meeting!

The fundraiser starts at 3:00pm. We will have plenty of good food, drinks, an outdoor fire and will be raffling off consulting sessions with a landscape and home interior designer — both of whom are residents of Bloomingdale. Also, please don`t forget to bring good old cash (or a check) for contributions to the park!

The pre-meeting and fundraiser will both occur at 2024 North Capitol Street NW. Hope to see you there!

Austin Pearl
CADC Secretary
