Pharmacy Students Launch Health Fair for LeDroit Park Seniors

The Office of Off-Campus Housing and Community Engagement (OCHCE) and the Howard University Community Association (HUCA) in conjunction with the students of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association- Howard University College of Pharmacy Chapter, held a Health Fair at the LeDroit Park Seniors Apartment.  This event was held on Thursday, March 24.  Over 35+ LeDroit Park residents attended and participated in the numerous health screenings and health education information sessions.  The information sessions focused on health related issues such as hypertension, diabetes, and drug education for the elderly population.  Pharmacy students and staff were interested in making this an annual event and teaming up with students from other health science schools and colleges to bring similar services to seniors and families in the area.

Pets on Campus
To ensure the health and public safety of the university community and preserve the integrity of the grounds, dogs or other pets are not allowed on Howard properties, with the exception of Service Animals.

Dogs and other pets that are brought onto university property must be restrained by a leash or otherwise under the direct control of a responsible person. Please keep animals away from water fountains, ponds and decorative structures. Animal waste and other messes caused by a pet must be immediately cleaned up and properly disposed of by the pet owner. Individuals bringing an animal to campus assume the financial responsibility for damages to property or injury to other individuals caused by their pet.  Thank you for your support in maintaining a healthy university environment!

2016 Housing Fair

The Office of Off-Campus Housing and Community Engagement (OCHCE) 2016 Housing Fair was held on Wednesday, April 13 in the Armour J. Blackburn Center.  The Howard University community’s overwhelming support made the event a tremendous success.  Over 500 students, staff, faculty and community members attended the event. There were 32 vendors including 5 sponsors present.  Over 20 give-away prizes totally over $1800 were awarded to students, staff, faculty and community members.

DID YOU KNOW?

Traditionally, Howard's commencement convocation is held on the main yard of the campus. Within the yard lies a pathway known as "The Long Walk." Originally, the pathway connected Greene Stadium and Founders Library. At Howard, "The Long Walk" represents the pathway to academic excellence and the struggle to achieve against all odds.  It also represents the transformation of students into civic leaders and global citizens while taking "the walk," characteristic of a Howard graduate. For that reason, Howard Bison regard the main yard as sacred. Students often avoid walking on the grass, based on the superstition that walking on the grass will prevent you from graduating.
