Eckington Civic Association receives estimate for neighborhood historic designation activities

Posted at the Eckington list at Yahoogroups by Eckington resident Steve Rynecki:

Just a quick note that Eckington Civic Association (ECA) received an estimate for conducting assessments and related activities toward historic designation for Eckington. We`re reviewing the proposal and it looks very comprehensive, but rather costly.

The small area plan for MidCityEast is an interesting opportunity for for us to add design standards as a requirement for property owners (developers) to ensure that any future pop ups, etc ``fit in`` with our community`s architectural character.

Historic designation is controversial, so it would be better if we can come together as a community and help define architectural standards that make sense and can be incorporated into DCRA construction permits.

If you`re interested in this subject, I urge you to participate in the planning sessions more found at: http://www.midcityeast.com/

"Design standards" could be great. Would that be similar to an overlay?

It is very exciting that the Office of Planning is looking at our neighborhoods and realizing what treasures they are. I hope that everyone who has yet to participate in the Small Area Plan will take advantage of one of the many opportunities, in person or online.
