Mechanical penthouse?

Or does the community center now have a pop-up?

Wow. it just gets worse and worse. That big black X building looks like some neo-brutalist architectural abortion from 1960s France...which I think is now inhabited by Somali drug lords. I love that view up N. Capitol. I can almost envision the gun battles in front of it. Are these are the same guys that designed Cabrini Green? Ok...I think these guys are out of ideas. Someone put them out of their misery. Next.

The Community Center looks like it was built before....no, hold on, wait...that's the Kennedy Center only sunk below grade. Oh that big black building. We'll call that the "SLAG PILE" or perhaps the "SLAG PYLE" for a little more upscale feel.

Here are comments from one of my neighbors:

That concept for the apartments is certainly a "vision" - ghastly, IMHO. It looks shockingly similar to this "affordable housing" complex under construction in Harlem:

http://inhabitat.com/nyc/affordable-sugar-hill-housing-complex-aims-to-be-a-model-of-urban-renewal-in-harlem/

We all know how the "urban renewal" concept succeeded with SW DC, Pruitt-Igoe in St. Louis, Cabrini Green in Chicago, and countless other notions of "improvement".

I think the community center looks like Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in LA or Avery Fisher Hall in NY.

I love the current plan.

You will find that the majority of the people who actually live near the park do like it. FOM is just a very loud group who want to make it into some sort of vegetable patch.

Not sure where Mona gets her "majority" data from or information about FOM's vegetable patch claim. From FOM website: alternatives from current plan that protects and preserves the open space, historic nature of site, and options for more public use. FOM doesn't endorse a specific plan or oppose development, but opposes one that makes it look like Tysons Corner or Columbia Heights. Other cities around the world have taken similar types of properties and done incredible things with them that benefit the local community and city as a whole, not just developers creating more density, more traffic, more *water runoff*, less open space. Just think outside the box at this opportunity to create something amazing rather than more ho-hum glass and cement towers.

This is such a mistake. I am not FOM, nor are my family, neighborhood, or church. We have rejected this poor planning and questionable deal making for decades. FOM may be a loud group, but they are only out-yelling our majority that wants something unique and reflective of OUR community. New people are now here allowing our old community to take a breather...thank God. We have fought hard for this long before the yuppy influx. You are deisrespecting thousands of people here. Help us move it forward to reach its potential and stop holding this up by being on the wrong side. Figure out how to get DMPED and Council out of the corner they put themselves in. This community has always been tight, and its clearer than ever now as we fight for our one endangered national landmark.

Then they should be yelling loudly within the community that is most affected by this, bloomingdale, stronghold and ledroit. How is it anyone outside these neighborhood that surround this park have any say as to what occurs here. Did I get a say on development on Capitol Hill or Georgetown or the Target on 14th st? I wouldn't begin to impose my will on the people of those neighborhoods and I don't know how anyone outside the neighborhoods surrounding McMillian can try to impose their will on us. To many of the that 2000 don't even live east of rock creek park yet they feel obligated to put in their two cents on McMillian

Good dodge there "14", go for the vegetable patch statement and completely ignore the question at hand. Where are your 2000 petition signers from? Are they even DC residents? Do they live in one of the surrounding neighborhoods of McMillian? After such a duck of the question I believe the answer is "NO"

Wow, you're a bit of a mess about this. Take a deep breath and think about how short life is. Now, relax and consider this. We are from here. You do a lot of making up stuff to complain about people that are working for something. They don't need to defend their hard work and Passion. You may need to defend your lack of action and lack of anything substantial or significant to show that backs up your vision or claims...from what I can tell from what you say, you only show contempt, which brings nothing to the table. You may dislike some people that like vegetables, so talk to others that want something a bit more like you do. Some of the FOM are extreme, but some are polite and sitting on the sidelines. Most people aren't members of FOM, so talk with them. You aren't their enemy; you are their neighbor and community.

Yes, there are a lot of other people from all over that care about this. You have absolutely no right to silence them. It's city property and a national monument to a Michigan senetor made by a world famous land architect in the USA. They are free to speak to their representative and ours. If you want survey and petition data for just your community, then someone will just hit FILTER on the database. Some survey came out where each neighborhood was filtered. They sure aren't going to hand in 2000 names of people from Vermont and claim they are from stronghold. They would only hurt their cause. Things aren't so corrupt...well, at least not in the community. Maybe noteworthy in the elected officials and the contractors. 3 busted councilmen who pushed hard for VMP...no community busted. That makes people question this deal...
