Urban Turf: "Friends of McMillan Park put ire over redesign to paper"

From Urban Turf:

Friends of McMillan Park Put Ire Over Redesign to Paper

The neighbors of McMillan Park have already made it very clear that they aren't keen on the park's current design. Now, the've taken their beefs into petition form. Larry Chang of the Friends of McMillan Park has been circulating the petition urging Mayor Gray to reject the current redesign planned by developer Vision McMillan Partners and tacking on a fact sheet further explaining why. Amongst their issues: VMP's plan to destroy 90% of the current historical structures and build 12 story commercial buildings and that the plan lacked transparency and community engagement.

Ok I really wish that they would stop saying "The Neighbors of McMillian Park". First of all this is a very small very loud group of people in the neighborhood who DO NOT represent everyone in this neighborhood. Everyone in Bloomingdale and around the park are not against the current plans so don't make statements to make it sound as though everyone in the neighborhood is in agreement with them.

Agreed 100%. There needs to be a sober conversation about the plan that takes into account traffic planning and zoning issue. This group speaks for no one other than their members. The park is not put to its best use right now in that it is behind barbed wire fencing and vacant. If it can be put to a better use that balances the imposition of construction and brings a long term plan for sustainable traffic and zoning (noise congestion, etc) that plan should get equal time.
