This Week: Time•LineThis is the last week to visit my solo show at Artisphere, and also the last time to visit Artisphere ever, as they're winding down the clock with my show.
I'll be knitting live as a part of my site-specific installation this Thursday, 6–9pm. Also, filmmakers will be there Wednesday 7–9pm shooting me for their documentary if you want a behind-the-scenes peek at the process.
“What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.”—T.S. Eliot
Rania Hassan combines knitting and painting to weave sculptural stories about our connections to time, place, and circumstance. Time•Line explores how the threads of our beginnings and endings shape and define us.
What brought you here to this point? Does one thread end where the next thread begins? In the Greek mythology of the three Fates, one goddess spins the thread, the second determines how long it will be, and the third cuts the thread.
One spindle, seven hands, eight spools of thread—all gathering at a single point representing where you are right now. The spools of threads represent potential, the hand-knit threads represent what’s been done, and everything points to one end, which is the present. This exact moment will never happen again. Everything is right here.
Join me this Thursday, June 25, 6–9pm, to see the piece in motion one last time. Here's a great photo from opening night by Matt Dunn for the Washington City Paper.

2106 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont, NY 10538 914.341.1426Notebook: YxYYJust returned from another year of YxYY, a gathering of amazing people for an unconference around the Ace Hotel pool in Palm Springs, CA. Last year I spent much of my time there knitting poolside for a show I'd be installing right when I returned. This year I installed a show just before I flew over, but this piece is a work in progress, so the surrounding days have been spent working on knitting my piece on site at Artisphere. Highlights of this trip include another visit to Joshua Tree, Integratron, and flying a drone over the Salton Sea. For more images from my adventures, please visit my Instagram.
