YA Project Playtime
Yoga District's nonprofit mission to keep yoga accessible to all doesn't stop at offering affordable classes at its studios. It supports and helps operate Yoga Activist, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to taking yoga to places where yoga isn't happening, like housing centers, drug rehab centers, schools, and more. In a new short video from Stone Soup Films featuring yoga teacher Heather Honstein and Yoga District and Yoga Activist founder Jasmine Chehrazi, Jasmine explains how Yoga Activist connects yoga volunteers with organizations and students... or, as Jasmine so simply puts it: "We're just connecting people who need each other." Learn more about this organization that's right here in your community and how you can get involved
 Outer Banks
Teacher Training

Spend the last days of summer on the beautiful beaches of the Outer Banks with your Yoga District family while earning your yoga teacher certification. During this 11-day Yoga Teacher Training from August 17-27 you'll enjoy a comfortable oceanfront house with private beach access, pool, sauna, hot tub, and healthy vegan meals--all while you're surrounded and supported by your yoga community. The training is led by two all-time loved Yoga District teachers, Kelly Melsted and Hannah Alderdice, who will help you turn your summer getaway into an inspirational opportunity to earn your teacher certification, expand your yoga practice, and deepen your outlook on life.

Practice Dharma
Yoga with Us
Sri Dharma Mittra's style of yoga has a strong emphasis on developing rapid flexibility in the body and openness in the mind for self realization. Sri Dharma teaches many of the yoga teachers at Yoga District and his tradition of yoga has deeply influenced our studio and community. You can experience the flowing, quieting, meditative, and spiritual benefits of Dharma Yoga every day of the week at Yoga District. Just join any of our Dharma Yoga classes including the monthly Dharma "Maha Sadhana" practice. To learn more check out the bios of teachers sharing Dharma-style yoga at Yoga District and their class schedules.

Yoga  for
Runners
running shoes on gravel sidewalk
If you're a runner, you need to make sure your legs are stretched to prevent injury and promote healing while keeping muscle imbalances in check. Join the August 16 Yoga for Runners workshop for a flowing yoga practice geared specifically for runners. We'll stretch the lower body, strengthen the core, and open the chest, shoulders and breath. Christina, a Senior Instructor who has taught at Yoga District since it opened, leads this workshop monthly. So whether you're just getting into running or training for a marathon, join Christina to learn how to structure a practice that will complement your training.

The District's
Youngest Teacher
Yoga District's youngest teacher training graduate is only 10 years old. Ivan has been practicing at Yoga District for two-and-a-half years. He not only completed his 200-hour yoga teacher certification, but is on his way to finishing the requirements for his 500-hour certification as well. We're thrilled to learn alongside Ivan and to have him as such an inspirational part of the community. Ivan teaches yoga to his swim team regularly. He explains he feels the benefits of yoga through the pose and philosophy practices: "It teaches me to be moderate in my feelings and actions, to focus, to be kind to others, including animals."

The Yoga
of  Service
Join Yoga District's new community service email list to learn about monthly opportunities to do general volunteer work alongside other yogis at a wide variety of organizations in the DC area. Service is a central part of yoga philosophy. Swami Sivananda explains, "By doing service, you purify your heart. Egoism, hatred, jealousy, idea of superiority vanish. Humility, pure love, sympathy, tolerance, and mercy are developed. Sense of separateness is annihilated. Selfishness is eradicated...You begin to feel oneness or unity of life. You develop a broad heart with broad, generous views. Eventually, you get Knowledge of the Self."

Work/Study
at Yoga District
Interested in giving back to the community while enjoying the sweet benefits of unlimited yoga and reduced-tuition teacher training? We're still looking for more amazing weekly volunteers to handle class registrations and help ensure the studios remain beautiful places to practice and share yoga. If you're interested feel free to email christina@yogadisrtict.com. If you're not sure you can commit to a weekly intern shift but would still like to stay up-to-date on openings, no worries--we can email you intern position openings once a month and you can apply or attend one of our intern open-house trainings whenever you feel the time is right. Thanks for making Yoga District by the community, for the community!
