front brick recently removed from 3 S St NW - would this be covered by the 14-11 pop-up zoning regulations passed last summer ?

The front brick has been removed from 3 S Street NW.

Would the Zoning Commission pop-up zoning regulations 14-11 passed last summer govern this renovation project?

big tomato sale at the Bloomingdale Farmers Market Sunday !

From: Robin Shuster
Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2016 2:40 AM
Subject: Big tomato sale at BFM SUN

Hi BFM friends:

Of course you know we are open rain or shine, right?

Canning Tomato Sale at Garner: 25 lbs of good red field tomatoes for $20.  Make sauce, have a bloody mary party, serve everyone you know gazpacho, oven dry tomatoes. Send email to 14&U on subject line.
wbboylejr@gmail.com. write 14&U

KESWICK CREAMERY: Yogurt, Yogurt. Yogurt. Loves berries and peaches.  Lots of feta cheese to make Greek salads with our tomatoes and cucumbers.  Cheddars and Leshers and Vermeer and Dragonsbreath.  Mixed milk cheeses too from their goats and cows.  All from animals that are pastured and loooovvvvveeee their grass.

REID: Blueberries, blackberries, yellow and white peaches, white nectarines, summer apples, and come early for the  raspberries, currants and gooseberries.

WHISKED: Raspberry Chocolate Almond, Blueberry Pie, Peach, Apple, Peach-Rasberry. Quiches for brunch: Kale and Feta Cheese, Bacon, Cheddar and Onion, Ratatouille Quiche.   Lots of cookies which also make lovely dinner gifts.

MOUNTAIN VIEW: Certified Organic. Tomatoes!  Shishito and Padron peppers to saute.  Hot peppers, Shallots, Onions, Carrots (make carrot pesto from the greens), lots of head lettuce ( butterhead romaine and summer crisp) kales, lots of collards, beets and greens,  lavender, mint, oregano, scallions, bok choi, mustards greens, summer squash and cut herbs including Greek Oregano which loves cooked greens.

GARNER:  Corn, corn, corn  Lots of heirlooms and cherry tomatoes, mixed red.  Eggplant of all kinds. Green peppers!Zucchini, yellow squash, Bonita, Golden Zucchini, Patty Pan, Cucumbers. Candy Onion bunches, Swiss Chard, beets and greens, lettuce mix, Green and Yellow beans. Okra.,Kales, White sweet Japanese turnips and greens, Cabbages, Carrots.  Potatoes: red, white, yukons. First okra.

CUCINA AL VOLO:   Matteo, Daniele (and Rolando) create Florence in DC: fresh pastas and fresh filled pastas, authentic sauces and soups.  Of course you want a pasta salad and Daniele can tell you the best way to create one.  Pasta is the best fast food.

The pastas cook in less than 4 minutes and they are gorgeous.  Smoked paprika orange fettucine, deep purple beet fusili, ravioli stuffed with homemade burrata.....Pasta and a salad make a light, elegant lunch or dinner.  In about 4 minutes. Perfect for a hot day. On the 14th street Side of the market.   Try the Italian "Gazpacho."

PANORAMA: French breakfast pastries like palmiers, almond croissants plus the plain and chocolate crosisants, baguettes, the olive oil buns that grace the 25 dollar hamburgers at Central and the Rustiques they serve only at Central and CityZen.  Sandwich breads, too.  If they are out of a bread you crave, ask them to save one for you for next week.  Late risers:  they have lots of whole wheat, multi-grain and sourdough boules and loaves that sell out early.  So reserve what you want!  Email if you do not see something you want, please.

TRUCK PATCH: Famous for their pastured pork (get that bacon) and and greens. Cherry tomatoes. Okra. eggplant. Squash. Green beans. Basil. Beets. Onion.  Spinach, chard, mesclun, arugula.  Check our facebook page for a video with Stacia.  PORK.

Number 1 Sons:  Caitlin reports: Seven pickle varieties again this week. Instead of Red N Butters, this week's sweet vinegar pickle is made with gin botanicals from One Eight Distillery. It's not spicy! Beet Kombucha, lightly spiced with chai spices, is back for a second week. Ask for a taste at the Number 1 Sons stand. Hot Cabbage Hearts are back. Spiced with habaneros and a touch of cinnamon + bay leave.

This Friday, July 29 from 5 to 8 p.m., please join us at Gallery 2000, 1529 17th St. NW (17th St. between P and Q Streets) for an exhibit of lovely photographs of McMillan Park.

Through the courtesy of our host, Gallery 2000, and several photographers who have donated their work, we hope you will come by to see and perhaps take home these lovely works for a suggested donation, a fundraiser to aid the Friends of McMillan Park legal fund. Our legal bills, accrued in the fight to stop the demolition of our park, are mounting and every donation penny helps.

Coming Soon: FOIA Progress Report Later This Week
Later this week, we will share some news about a recent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case recently that was decided in our favor by the D.C. Court of Appeals. The good news is that the court sided with us. The bad news is that we had to go to court at all to seek documents from our government.

History Walking Tour Around McMillan Park This Fall
In the coming months, we will be organizing a tour around McMillan Park to share the history of the park led by a friend who has put together an extensive history of McMillan and the neighborhood of Washington around it. The tour will be about 1.5 hours in length and will involve a walk all around the park in return for a suggested donation to The Friends of McMillan Park legal fund.

The Friends of McMillan Park, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. If you have any questions, please contact restoremcmillan@gmail.com or call 202.213.2690.

three Robbery Gun suspects apprehended

Subject: [MPD-5D] Armed Robbery Arrests

Good Evening –

This evening at approximately 6:30 pm in the unit block of Florida Avenue NW, three subjects occupying a gold Ford Explorer accosted several citizens at gunpoint as they exited an establishment in the block.  The victims were robbed of their personal possessions, and the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle.

Moments later the Office of Unified Communications dispatcher broadcast the radio run for the robbery, including a look-out for the suspect vehicle.

Fifth District officers immediately flooded the area while canvassing for the victims and suspects.  Within moments, one of the officers spotted the suspect vehicle and began coordination with other officers in the area to conduct a felony vehicle stop.  While doing so, the suspects became aware of the increasing MPD presence, and the suspects fled in the vehicle to an alley in the 200 block of Morgan St NW.  The suspects bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot.  Despite two of the suspects being armed with guns, the officers selflessly gave chase on foot.  All three suspects were apprehended without injury to the officers or the suspects.

The suspects were positively identified as having committed the robbery in question, and two loaded and operable pistols were recovered, as was the property of the victims.  The patrol officers of the Fifth District, as well as members of the Second District Crime Suppression Team, and numerous detectives from the Fifth District Detectives’ Unit worked together closely and seamlessly  to remove three dangerous felons from the streets of the District, as well as two firearms.

Outstanding police work by our members, of which the community and their peers can be very proud! Great work!!!
