Boundary Stone’s Songs of Summer
The Boundary Stone (116 Rhode Island Ave. NW) has expanded its musical footprint and launched the 100% Summer Session Concert Series. While Monday is still reserved for open mic night, the venue has added events on Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer, and plans to continue in the fall. Each Saturday will see a different concert featuring local and regional bands. On Wednesday, owner Colin McDonough plans to mix it up with music education programs and documentary showings.
“Once we expanded, we knew we wanted to put the music front and center,” McDonough explains. “This is just formalizing what we’ve been trying to do all along.” That focus on the music translates into a top-of-the-line sound system and infrastructure designed by Scott Stark. Live performances are also streamed on the TVs in the bar on the other side of the large, half-split room.

McDonough remembers a time when the neighborhood was begging for a watering hole of any kind. Nowadays, the proprietors of new local establishments need to try and fill a void in the market (read: Truxton Inn and high-end cocktails). Boundary Stone has continued to expand its offerings to the ever-changing community. Now neighbors can say they live within walking distance of not only great restaurants and bars, but a rocking live music venue.
Boundary Stone has partnered with DC Brau to sponsor the series, and plans to release a 100% Summer Session IPA that will be available for $4 at concerts, as well as other DC Brau beers. Every event is free to attend. The series kicked off on July 21 with a performance by singer/songwriter Andy Shea, featuring Reed Appleseed.

the re-enactment slated for this Tuesday, 08-01-2017, will indeed be at Flagler and W Street NW -- "RSVP is required for access"

Trying to keep up here.

The Jack Burkman murder re-enactment will indeed be at Bloomingdale's Flagler and W Street NW this Tuesday, 08-01-2017.

An RSVP is required for access to public space...?

There does not appear to be a DDOT permit on the DDOT permit map for this activity.

I do not like posting this stuff.  But if they are going to be here in Bloomingdale, then neighbors need to be advised.

MORE INFORMATION
Late last month, The Profiling Project released an 80-page report on its preliminary findings. Chief among them: the facts don’t support that the killing was random; that it was likely a hit.
In addition to creating The Profiling Project, Burkman, a GOP lobbyist and lawyer, has put up $105-thousand in reward money—the largest single contribution from an individual. He has also erected billboards in the neighborhood, created the website whokilledseth.com and filed suit against the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), among others, to force the release of more evidence publicly, including videotapes of the crime.

Jack Burkman sets Aug. 1 for Hollywood-style re-enactment of Seth Rich murder

Group says known facts of the Seth Rich case will be coupled with various probable scenarios to act out what happened that night. It will be open to the media.

(PR NewsChannel) / July 10, 2017 / ARLINGTON, VA

The Profiling Project, the independent, nonpartisan and autonomous unit investigating the mysterious unsolved murder of Seth Rich, announced today that to catch the killer or killers, the group will stage a re-enactment of the murder on Tuesday, August 1 funded by Jack Burkman.

Mirroring a Hollywood set, complete with lights, cameras and actors, the group says known facts of the Seth Rich case will be coupled with various probable scenarios to act out what happened that night. It will be open to the media.

“Reenactments help catch killers. We must therefore rise to the occasion and give Washington, D.C. and this nation one of the finest crime reenactments ever done,” says lobbyist/lawyer Jack Burkman, director of The Profiling Project.

One year ago today, DNC staffer Seth Rich was fatally shot in his D.C. neighborhood, creating a news story full of theories, suspicions and controversy. There have been no arrests and there are no known suspects.

Burkman vows he and the Project will not stop until this case is solved.

“Never has there been such a high-profile case with a complete lack of information released by police. It’s almost appears as though they don’t want this case solved,” says Burkman. “Police continue to say it was random and that it was a robbery gone bad yet nothing was taken. There’s something not right and I’m not going to quit until we get to the truth of who is responsible for the killing.”

Late last month, The Profiling Project released an 80-page report on its preliminary findings. Chief among them: the facts don’t support that the killing was random; that it was likely a hit.

“Just about everything in this case doesn’t add up,” says Burkman. “I am deeply troubled by it and our community should be too. That is why I won’t let up.”

In addition to The Profiling Project, Burkman, a GOP lobbyist and lawyer, has put up $105-thousand in reward money—the largest single contribution from an individual. He has also erected billboards in the neighborhood, created the website whokilledseth.com and filed suit against the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), among others, to force the release of more evidence publicly, including videotapes of the crime.

InTowner: Mayor’s Agent hearing reveals never-never land character of McMillan Park Reservoir controversy

Click on the link below to read the entire InTowner article.

Published: July 24th, 2017
By William G. Schulz*

It can sometimes seem as if McMillan Park Reservoir– a now-blighted and fenced-off 25-acre open space crossing the city’s Stronghold, Bloomingdale, and LeDroit Park neighborhoods — is at risk of becoming Never-Never Land.
Ever since the city bought the parkland portion of the historic reservoir area from the Army Corps of Engineers in 1989, plans to redevelop the vast green space have been dogged by controversy, marred by scandal and possibly official corruption, and fought tooth and nail by citizen activist groups who want to see much more of McMillan’s 19th century water purification technology and underground storage caverns preserved for posterity.

The latest episode of the McMillan Park drama played out on July 14th during an all-day hearing of the Mayor’s Agent for Historic Preservation, who is J. Peter Byrne, a Georgetown University law professor and expert on land use, historic preservation, and similar issues at the Georgetown University Law Center. Byrne works on contract with the city and his reports and findings are presented to the Mayor’s office for final approval.
The hearing — which The InTowner has learned will be continued sometime after August 15th because one day was simply not enough time – addressed a set of remands handed down by the DC Court of Appeals’ decision in December 2016. That ruling vacated the city’s zoning designations for the McMillan site, thus bringing construction by Vision McMillan Partners (VMP) to a screeching halt just one day after a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Bowser, like many other elected city officials, wants VMP’s development plans to proceed. The resulting park, community center, mixed-income housing, and towering medical office buildings would be a crowning achievement for her administration – at least in the eyes of pro-development forces. But they are plans that now hang in the balance thanks in large part to Friends of McMillan Park (FOMP), a neighborhood activist group that filed the original suit addressed by the Court of Appeals after a ruling against FOMP by the Mayor’s Agent.
The Appeals Court remand — as The InTowner has reported  –- instructed that the city address a set of five issues that the court’s three-judge panel unanimously deemed insufficiently explained or justified by the city to serve as the basis for zoning designations that would have allowed construction to begin.

Bloomingdale Fun and Fit Pool Party Planning Meeting | Wednesday, July 26 6:30pm at Crisp
Good Morning!

Since starting in April, Bloomingdale Fun and Fit [BFF] has brought together over 75 of our neighbors for fun and healthy events in Bloomingdale, including Tai Chi, Yoga, Spin, and a tour of Common Good City Farm. Many of you have been involved in these events - thank you!

For Bloomingdale Fun and Fit's August event, we're thinking that it's about time for a pool party barbecue at the Harry Thomas Rec Center. This will be an awesome way to beat the heat and meet some great neighbors.

The BFF Pool Party could be epic or it could be intimate. It depends on how many of our neighbors want to help make it.

We'll meet to start planning the BFF Pool Party this Wednesday, July 26, at 6:30pm at Crisp Kitchen and Bar on 1st St NW.

We already have a budget for food and will be reserving the grill at Harry Thomas. How much bigger this party becomes is up to us!

Hope to see you Wednesday,

The BFF Team

DC Office of Planning *opposes * the pursued zoning relief for the 74 R Street NW (two condo units) -- how will the BZA vote tomorrow at the BZA hearing ?

Recall that 74 R Street NW was recently converted into two units, permitted by-right under RF-1. (Here is a link.)

However, some zoning relief was needed -- for exceeding lot occupancy and for an addition to a nonconforming structure.

The Bloomingdale Civic Association voted on Monday, 06/26/2017, to support the zoning relief.  ANC5E06 Commissioner McClelland advised that ANC5E would support the zoning relief if the BCA voted for it.  So since the BCA voted for it, the requested zoning relief got ANC5E's support as well.

However.

See the DC Office of Planning's recommendation below.

"the Office of Planning cannot make a recommendation regarding variance relief"

Note that the BZA hearing is tomorrow, Wednesday, 07-26-2017.

Will the BZA vote not to support 74 R Street NW's variance relief in line with the Office of Planning's recommendation?

We shall see.
