Bloomingdale Farmers Market: Stock up for Memorial Day 2022

So thinking about things I am going to get for my Memorial Day cookout:

SWIRLY GIRL CREAMER

 little Elliot will be supervising his father and grandmother. at the stand!  I will grab some of their "Pub Music".  It is a goat's milk Cotswold (or Double Gloucester style), loaded with onions and chives. Perfect for melting on burgers or grilled vegetables and snacking.  Others: Dill Havarti, Peach Butlah, Winter Morning, Tommy Goat, Goat Feta, Spring Tulip, Smoky Isabelle, Smokey Gouda, Sara's Brie, Blue Moon, Onamor, Spring Picnic, Gouda, Cowtin,  Mira, Various flavors of curds and Chevre.



WHISKED COOKIES AND PIES.  I was taken with their Memorial Day Board of triangles of cookies and pies with fruit and cheese.  It looked very cool. I am not sure which pies I want to bring yet but they would all be welcome.

  • As an omnivore, I will definitely be grilling Hot Dogs, Burgers, Sausages and Chicken from Groff's. 
  • And lots of Grilled Vegetables: Squash, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Fennel, Escarole, Broccoli, Asparagus.
  • Garner has Tomatoes already and I will made a salad of them with Swirly Girl Feta and cucumbers and spring onions and fresh mint or basil.
  • Did you know that Memorial Day weekend is a traditional weekend to plant your gardens, balconies, patios, terraces?


REID's ORCHARDS
  turns into a popup nursery every year at this time so you can find all the herbs and tomatoes and peppers and vegetables and Geranium and other annuals you need to beautify your gardens and patios and balconies -- and make your cooking herbalicious.  So here is a partial list: Many kins of sweet and hot peppers with their scoville heat ratings so you know if they are hot enough for the chileheads. Tomatoes include heirloom, cherry, grape and good old delicious hybrid red.  onal Geraniums, Mosquito Shocker Geraniums.  Racks of bedding plants. Strawberries, Apples and Reid's own preserves and canned good.

SHENANDOAH SEASONAL:
Beautiful beautiful heads of various lettuce (gem, red and green looseleaf and romaine) that I have been eating for lunch all week. Lettuce Mix. Escarole for eating or grilling or sauteiing with olive oil and garlic and some hot dried red peppers. 3 varieties of bright red and purple radishes, Chinese sprouting broccoli, baby candy striped beets, baby red beets, scallions, dill, fennel, dill bunched greens ( kales, chard, bok choy, broccoli leaves, collards).Zesty salad mix, Peashoots, Kohlrabi.  Remember to cook the kohlrabi, radish and beet greens.

GARNER'S PRODUCE: Lots of Strawberries, lots of Asparagus.  Baby New Potatoes. Cucumbers. early Yellow Squash, Zucchini and their Flowers. Head Lettuces. Esarole. Swiss Chard. Spinach, Arugula. Salad Mix, Collards. Bok Choy. Broccoli, Garlic Scapes: the spiray ones from heirloom garlic and tall, straight stems from the elephant garlic.  Napa Cabbages. Romaine. Kales. Sorrel, Carrots. Spring Onions. many kinds of Radishes. Elephant Garlic and Garlic Scapes, Cilantro, Parsley. Rosemary. Lavender. Mint. Basil, Cilanro. Dill. Stoneground Grits and Stoneground Cornmeal. LOTS of starter herbs and plants.
                     

 

WHISKED: Andre says: Whether it is a cookout, picnic or camping trip, come prepared with some delicious cookies and pies. Memorial Day. Pies: Apple Crumble, Bourbon Pecan, Sea Salt Chocolate Chess, Salted Caramel Apple, Cherry. Cookies (Chocolate Chip, Salty Oatmeal, Molasses Spice, Pretzel Cowboy, Snickerdoodle, Vegan: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Lemon Poppy Seed, Chocolate Blackout, Peppermint Chocolate.  


CUCINA AL VOLO
: Green Fusilli makes the best pasta salad for your Memorial Day cookouts and picnics. Homemade Fettucine, Bucatini, Strozzapretti, Cavatelli, Mushroom Pappardelle, Smoked Pepper, Pappardelle, Handmade Gnocchi, Stuffed Squash: Butternut Squash, Burrata, Spinach and Cheese, Beef Brisket.  Buy them frozen and keep them in your freezer.  Toss them into simmering, salted water and they are done in less than 5 minutes. Perfect fast food as it should be.

KING MUSHROOMS: 8 kinds of 'shrooms including various colors and size of oyster mushrooms, shiitakes, hen of the woods, lions mane.

NUMBER 1 SONS: First of the cucumber Pickles (Half Sours, Crispy Koshers and Honey Habaneros. Ramp Kraut. Salsa Verde, Giardiniera. 2 kinds of Kimchi

GROFF'S CONTENT: Grass Fed Meats: Beef (steaks, roasts, ground,  sausages, patties etc). Pork (chops, bacon, roasts, sausages etc). Whole Chickens, some Turkey parts. All Beef Hot Dogs and Half Smokes.  Pork liver Pâté. Birria. Boeuf Bourguignon, Chicken and Veggie Soup, Italian Wedding Soup, Beef and Chicken Enchiladas, Beef Chili, Chicken Pot Pie, Beef Shepherd's Pie. 

PANORAMA: Croissants, Breakfast Pastries, Muffins, Bear Claws. Danish, Baguettes, Multigrain, French Boule, Whole Wheat, Rustiques, Petit Pains, Olive, Sourdough, Focaccia, Challah, Ciabatta.  Loaves and Sandwich breads. Look out for Damien's weekly specials too.
