What's red, white and blue  at BFM Sun?

Bet you thought I was going to say Reid's cherries and raspberries and currants and blueberries?  Nah, you know about those, already.  No, it is Ivy Brand's red, white and blue POTATOES.  Perfect for an…. Independent... potato salad.

Farming is a gamble every year but while the apricots may have lost because of March Frost in 2014, you’ve won a fruit blast this week at Reid.

KID POWER IS BACK with a cooking demo this week at 11 am.

MUSIC AT THE MARKET at 10 am.  The "Classiest Guys You Know Duo" features Pete "Bubbles" Jones on the bass and Jeff "Fozzybear" Rezmovic on mandolin and vocals.  The duo performs sloppy covers of bluegrass, folk, and rock tunes.  Singing along is encouraged but not mandatory.

So, What is at the Stands?

REID's  All the holiday colors are here: Strawberries, red raspberries, blueberries, white currants,  sweet and pie cherries.  Tart gooseberries.make a lovely sauce for fish and play well with strawberries in ice cream or a tart. or a    TIP: Toss currants into green salads for a pop of bright acidity.   Sugar Snap Peas are good for currants too.

TIP:  Fruit Salads love fresh herbs  with and you can chop mint, basil, tarragon into a berry mix…

KESWICK: The yogurt is perfect with all the berries.  We eat it every morning.  If somehow I have not corralled you into tasting this, my favorite yogurt in the world, just take yourself over to the stand and see why I keep raving about it.   They have tasting samples in miniature paper cups.   This week I also made cuccumber yogurt soup with walnuts.   Ricotta is good with fruit as well, bovre is Keswick's version of Chevre.   Quark is what cream cheese aspires to be.  Caparella loves tomatoes, cukes and olives -- and why not?  it is Keswick mozzarella/burratta creation of Jersey cow and goat milk.  Fete with Feta this weekend too.

IVY BRAND had a table full of field tomatoes last week including some popular heirlooms like Prudence Purple.   Nick says they will have red, white and blue Independence Day potatoes for a patriotic potato salad (you are not going to stop picnicking just because July 4th falls on a Friday, are you?)  Cucumbers. Carrots. Swiss Chard, Kale. Scallions. Fresh Garlic. Baby squash. Baby head (Gem) lettuce. Salad turnips,  Cilantro.  Fresh Shallots.  Beets.

GARNER’s got yellow sweet CORN and 20 varieties of field tomatoes—I will list all the tomatoes we have in market next week.  Pickling and slicing tomatoes; red, white and Yukon potatoes, arugula, beet, chard, okra, purslane, eggplant (white, Thai, Italian and Japanese), Hot and sweet peppers of various colors.  Big sweet blackberries.

MAKE a cool GAZPACHO with our tomatoes, peppers, cukes and onions.

WHISKED: Jenna says her tart cherry pie with crunchy crumble topping is ready for the 4th of July weekend.  Or blueberry or peachy peach or the classic apple pie she was raised on..  Or all of them if you are having a big picnic.  Savory Italian zucchini quiche and bacon, cheddar, onion quiche as well. To

TRUCK PATCH: The tiniest arugula, mixed salads, beets, onions, lots of pretty greens.  Green beans too.  and flower bouquets.

TRUCK  PATCH MEATS: The epicenter of pastured pork and Dino’s favorite source for his pork dishes.  Every cut-- chops and loins and sirloins and roasts and ribs, ground, bacons, many sausages.  Chickens. Turkey breasts and parts.
