David Grosso is a native Washingtonian and proud resident of Brookland in Ward 5. David is running for an At-Large seat on the DC Council to represent all DC residents and to reform city budgets and ethics, to continue the city’s school reform efforts, to spread smart economic development, to create both jobs and careers, and to make DC residents safer and healthier.
David earned his BA from Earlham College, and a JD from Georgetown Law. After law school he worked for DC Councilmember Sharon Ambrose (D-Ward 6), who is chair of his campaign. He then served as Chief Counsel to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. Today, he is trying his hand at the private sector, helping CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield implement President Obama’s federal healthcare reform. David is a member of the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Metropolitan Washington.
Before college, David volunteered helping refugees from El Salvador living in Honduras. He also spent a year as a full-time volunteer building a transitional housing program for homeless women in San Antonio, Texas, where he met his wife, Serra Sippel, also a native Washingtonian. Serra is president of the Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE), a Washington, DC-based advocacy organization that promotes women’s health and rights in US foreign policy. Serra is leading the Women for Grosso campaign with Sharon Ambrose to mobilize DC’s women voters.
