Subject: Town Hall Meeting and tour of Mcmillan Park

Tonite's program at the Brooks Mansion on the Community defeat of The Washington Freeway with Angelina Rooney and our neighbors from Ivy City was excellent. Provokes one to think how our area would have been destroyed bisected by a 6 lane freeway, and running right through all of DC. The struggle to save the Crummel School in Ivy City was presented by community Activists Narosa Parisa with Empower DC and Andrea Swanson. Where the DC govt. is fighting to impose bus parking lot against community opposition and has not re-developed the Crummel School for over 30 years.

The fight for preserving the Brookland Green and keeping our communal green-space as part of the future development of the Metro Station was on my mind, and right out the window of the Brooks Mansion. As we see the wave of mega-development in all the adjacent areas to the metro, the preservation of the only Brookland Commons is more and more clearly appropriate and healthy DC planning. Let's see how our concerns for controlling ouor own environment progress with the onslaught of construction surroounding the open space and mature trees in the Brookland Green. Please support the effort in Bloomingdale to keep a 25 acre park, our GlenEcho at historic McMillan, only 6 blocks away,, a "great place" for you and your kids.

Please note that the next public tour of McMillan Park, originally planned for this Saturday, has been postponed until later this fall. We are continuing our close collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers to host the upcoming tour of the Reservoir side of the Park, including some of its well-maintained underground filtration cells. We will keep everyone posted about this rare opportunity to experience one of our city's finest hidden treasures.

Public tour? That's the first I've heard about that.
