RiverSmart Rewards, Discounts for Stormwater Management
Hello
Ward 5 ANCs -
Can
you please post the information below to your respective neighborhood and ANC
listservs? Thank you!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The
District Department of the Environment (DDOE) and DC Water are offering
discounts on the Stormwater Fee and Clean Rivers Impervious Area Charge (IAC)
through the DDOE-managed program RiverSmartRewards . Both fees are billed to a
property’s DC Water bill. Properties are eligible for a discount of up to 55%
off the DDOE Stormwater Fee and up to 4% off DC Water’s Clean Rivers IAC when
stormwater retention Best Management Practices (BMPs) are installed and
maintained on site. Discounts are calculated based on the volume of stormwater
captured or “retained” by eligible BMPs.
To
receive a discount, you must:
·
Install and maintain BMPs that retain stormwater runoff
·
Be current on all of your DC Water bills
·
Submit an application to DDOE
·
Provide a site plan that illustrates the design of the BMPs on your property
(required one the Standard Application only)
Eligible
BMPs:
·
Green roofs
·
Permeable pavement systems
·
Rainwater harvesting (cisterns and rain barrels or tanks)
·
Bioretention (rain gardens)
·
Other BMPs that retain stormwater runoff
How
to apply:
Use
the RiverSmart Rewards Standard Application to apply for your discount. The
Standard Application is required for properties with BMPs that manage more than
2,000 square feet of impervious surface (check your DC Water bill for
impervious surface information). To receive a retroactive discount on the DC
Government Stormwater Fee, submit a Standard Application by July 31, 2014. The
Standard Application is available at ddoe.dc.gov/riversmartrewards. You may
apply using a PDF form or online using DDOE’s “Stormwater Retention Tool.”
A
Simplified Application for properties with BMPs that manage less than 2,000
square feet of impervious surface will be available in July 2014.

Can anyone recommend landscapers that are familiar with this process to get the appropriate rebates/incentives? I'm looking to put in some permeable pavers this summer.
John Shorb Landscaping is installing our rain garden as part of the RiverSmart Homes program. You can probably reach out to them for details. They might even be able to help you get through the system faster.
