Did you know that the
never-built streets on the McMillan Sand Filtration site – the unit blocks of
Franklin St NW, Evarts St NW and Douglas St NW – have to be officially
closed? That is the 2nd legislative item listed below.
You learn something new every
day.
Here is the hearing link.
And here is a link to the extension resolution (the other bill is the closing of the streets).
The Committee of the Whole will hold a Public Hearing on the following legislation:
- PR21-307, the “McMillan Townhomes Parcel, Commercial Parcel, and Multifamily Parcels Disposition Extension Approval Resolution of 2015”
- B21-336, the “Closing of Franklin Street, N.W., Evarts Street, N.W., and Douglas Street, N.W. in Square 3128, S.O. 13-09432, Act of 2015”
Those who wish to testify are asked to telephone the Committee of the Whole at (202) 724-8196, or email Cynthia Lefevre, Legislative Counsel, at

Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 15 copies of written testimony. If submitted by the close of business on October 22, 2015, the testimony will be distributed to Councilmembers before the hearing. Please view the hearing notice for additional information.

Of interest to residents, especially the ones on surrounding streets, may be the extension of the time to dispose of the land could lengthen the time the construction will take place. "The outside closing date for the phase 2 parcels will therefore be no later than 2021." That means vertical construction could start after that. Completion date unknown. That's a long time to live with construction.
