REID is transitioning back to being an orchard.  Look for the strawberries (TYEE Hybrids), sugar snap peas, English Garden peas.  Maybe the first blueberies and sweet cherries? Last of the apples (Aztec Fuji, Goldrush, Arkansas black) and pears (Hosui and Anjou). The apples and pears have been in controlled atmosphere storage to keep them crisp and fresh. Fruit butters, no sugar applesauce and canned peaches. Apple Cider in 1/2 gallon sealed growlers.  If you have not had canned peaches since you were a kid, try them!

Plants: last week for tomatoes, last week for squash, zucchini, beets, green beans, lettuces, kale
Flowers: last week for multiple marigolds
Herbs: yes. sweet basil

CUCINA AL VOLO: Good pasta weather Sunday. Matteo and Rolando make the pastas and sauces and eggplant parm and lasagna for both their three restos and the markets.  IF there is a specialty you want to see at market, tell them! All these homemade pastas love to wait for you in your freezer but cook up from frozen to place in less than 5 minutes  (okay, the lasagna takes longer).  I keep at least three different pasta in my freezer at all time -- two ravioli and something else.   Remember the green kale fusilli makes the best pasta salad.  The spirals catch all the bits of vegetable and cheese and chopped herbs. Does your Dad crave lasagne or eggplant parm?

Here is this week's list:
  • Burrata ravioli
  • Spinach and ricotta ravioli
  • Beef brisket and Parmesan ravioli
  • Roasted butternut squash and mascarpone ravioli
  • Egg fettuccine
  • Smoked paprika pappardelle
  • Green kale fusilli
  • Squid ink chitarra
  • Egg strozzapreti
  • Hand made potato gnocchi
  • Eggplant Parmesan (Take and Bake)
  • Beef lasagna (Take and Bake)
SAUCES:
  • Pesto
  • Lamb ragu
  • Bolognese sauce
  • Cherry tomato sauce
  • Wild mushroom sauce
  • Eggplant sauce
Yes, one more favorite producer is rejoining the market NEXT week.
