Reid Strawberry Central will have tables of strawberries Sunday.

Hi BFM Fans,

I don't have a photo yet....but Reid is bringing the first of their tomatoes!   Yes, they are greenhouse grown:  Big Denas.  Kathy gave a few to her regular Saturday customers and asked them their honest opinion.  It is larger than most greenhouse varieties and their response was positive for both texture and flavor!  Reid gambled on this one because other growers she talked to before purchasing the seeds said the tomatoes were similar to a Burpee's Big Beef in size, texture and flavor.  She says they are spot on.  They will also have a few zucchini and yellow squash.

Looking for red fruit?  Reid is now Strawberry Central at BFM. There will be lots of delicious strawberries of mixed varieties plus sugar snap peas.

Garner MAY have some blackberries and maybe a few pints of raspberries.....

I wanted to reshare this special strawberry and rum based barbecue sauce from last week for cookouts
https://www.finecooking.com/recipe/strawberry-bbq-sauce

Fresh and fruity, it's great with pork and chicken. Think grilled foods, smoked chicken wings, as a glaze for meatloaf or even French Fries.  From Soul: a Chef's Culinary Evolution in 150 recipes by Todd Richards.

Make strawberry jam - buy a flat.  Make strawberry syrup. Strawberry ice cream or granita..  Freeze strawberries for later.  Now is the time.

Too hot to cook?  Grill everything outside.  Or buy dumplings or pasta: they go from your freezer to your table in less than ten minutes. Fast food the way it SHOULD be.

Notable  this week:

  • Love chicken? Groff's Content will have their famous Freedom Ranger chickens at BFM again. Just in time to spatchcock and grill one.
