lost miniature dachsund, last seen on the 100 block of Adams St NW

About an hour ago (8:30pm) my dog escaped from the backyard. She is a new addition to the household, and very unfamiliar with the neighborhood. She is very timid, and probably panicked. A neighbor saw her running down the street (Adams St. NW) at approx. 8:30-ish, heading towards 1st St. NW. If anyone sees her, please call me no matter what time at 202.210.5142. Please just keep an eye on her and I will come to collect her. My concern is that if she feels cornered she will bolt again.

She is approx. 10 lbs, black and tan, miniature dachshund (wirehaired, weiner dog). She has a beard and eyebrows.

I am offering a reward to whomever finds her.

Lost Dog

LOST DOG!!! 6-year old male yellow lab named "Peanut" ran away on Monday morning from Bloomingdale/LeDroit area. He is wearing a blue collar. Although he was last seen heading towards Dupont, he is very fast and could be anywhere in the area. If there is any information about him, please contact Liz Schaefer at 215-510-2317.

I live at First and Florida NW and this morning on my way to the bus I saw a little Pomeranian dog loose on the South side of Florida. I tried to come near it but he was quite afraid and ran down an ally before the liquor store on First and Florida. I just want to make sure that the neighborhood knows where this dog is before something happens to it.

See this late evening 1/5/2011 message from a Quincy Place NW resident:

On my way home last night I found the most adorable, neutered male, beagle mix dog. I spotted him near the gas station at the diagonal of Florida and Q Street NW round 10 pm. He narrowly made it across Fl. Ave. and came to me when I called him. He was a bit scared and shaking, but clearly someone`s house pet as he is well mannered and was not afraid of being approached. I brought him home with me and gave him some of my dog`s food and fresh water. He was not hungry, other than for dog treats, so is likely recently lost. Unfortunately he has no tag but probably belongs to someone in the neighborhood. I plan to take him to the shelter on Saturday. Attached is a photo I snapped last night. A male pug was found wandering around the unit block of S Street NW. It`s a very friendly dog and looks very healthy so it`s not a stray. Please put the world out.

We left the pug at Mimi`s place in hopes that she`ll know who the dog belongs to.

See this message received late Sunday evening, June 13, 2010:

Our dog Zoolander ``Zooey`` ran out the door after being spooked at the end of a walk from our house on the unit block of S Street NW Sunday night 6/13 around 9:30pm. He took off toward North Capitol Street and then headed north. We couldn`t catch up with him. We`ve searched everywhere up to the hospital on bikes including the alleys with no luck. We`ve had him only a month from the Washington Animal Rescue League and he`s still very skittish around new people and things and the city in general.

He`s white and tan (almost orangey) with a lot of short fluffy hair. He is six years old and about 40lbs. Zooey is on some serious daily medication which he needs to stay stable.

If spotted please call Animal Control OR Josh at (201) 452- 7600.

A U Street NW reported a found dog yesterday evening.

Here is a pic of the dog.

The neighbor who found the dog has this comment: “I had the dog picked up by the Washington Humane Society.”

See this late Saturday morning, 1/09/2010 message from a Bloomingdale resident on the unit block of Rhode Island Avenue NW:

I wanted to alert you that there is currently a dog sitting at the corner of First and Rhode Island, NW right in front of Windows Cafe. It is clearly someone's dog that is lost and it is just sitting there waiting for its owners to pick it up. The dog doesn’t have tags on it, but it has a leash, so it clearly not a stray. It's a mid to larger size that is darkish brown and kind of a mix between a retriever and bulldog. It's certainly not dangerous and was very playful so no need to worry. I was hoping you could send something over the listserve so that the owner could find their dog? I would hate for it to be hit by a car or for Animal Control to take it away.

A resident of the 100 block of T Street NW sent this reply:

To the person submitting a tip to you at 11:09PM on a freezing cold night about a stray dog -- horrible! I can't believe this person decided it was better to just leave the dog out there and send you an *email* rather than really do anything.

I know they probably had good intentions, or maybe they are just not "dog people," but they should have either taken the dog in for the night or called Animal Control. In these frigid temperatures, just leaving it there likely means the dog is now dead. Also given the location it may have later been hit by a car. I wish I'd seen the dog while I was out walking my dogs last night, because I would have certainly given him shelter for the night, but unfortunately that corner is not on my route.

I'd just like to let this neighbor know that instead of emailing you (meaning no one will see the notice until the next day), if they actually cared about the safety of the dog, it would have been in the better to have called Animal Control, to mitigate the risk of the dog getting hit by a car or freezing to death.

I sure hope that dog is OK. I would personally feel *terrible* leaving a friendly dog out in this weather to freeze or get hit by a car.
