Dear
Neighbors,
Yesterday
another daytime burglary occurred in Bloomingdale, this time on the Unit Block
of S Street NW.
As
the case in many recent incidents, the perpetrator struck sometime during broad
daylight before the victim returned home from work. Rather than through the
rear entrance in the alley, they entered the basement apartment through an
unlocked window next to the front door concealed beneath the front steps and
exited through the front door. The burglar was so bold that they proceeded with
the job despite three dogs barking from within the home and one resident at
home in the upper unit. The victim suffered the loss of a laptop and an
ipod.
MPD
responded promptly to the victim`s call upon arriving home from work and
collected several fingerprints. In addition to ensuring that all windows remain
locked, the Officers recommended placing boards between the upper window sill
and window frames for windows reachable at ground level to prevent forced
entry. Please also remember to conceal laptops from plain sight within your
home before you leave.
If
you arrive home and suspect that something may be out of place, please call 911
immediately and avoid handling any potentially disturbed items to preserve the
crime scene.
Thank
you,
Hugh
