Subject: Bloomingdale Traffic Advisory and Community Update

Bloomingdale Community,

Below, you will find a DDOT Traffic Advisory which was issued late last week for additional work on Rhode Island Ave. NW. This information was covered in the original advisory that was sent out to the community in May; however, since we are now in this phase of the project we wanted to update you. In addition to the traffic advisory, I have attached a soft copy of the community update which was distributed at the Bloomingdale Civic Association and ANC 5E meeting last week. Please distribute to the neighborhood networks.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you.

***TRAFFIC ADVISORY***

Single Lane Conditions Planned for the Westbound 100 Block of Rhode Island Avenue NW

(Washington, D.C.) As a part of the Bloomingdale Surface Water Management Project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the right lane in the westbound direction of the 100 Block of Rhode Island Avenue NW starting on or about June 24, 2013 for two consecutive weeks. This lane will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday , weather and construction conditions permitting.  During construction hours, traffic along this stretch of westbound Rhode Island Avenue NW will be reduced to one lane and “No-Parking restrictions will be in effect in the immediate area of construction, except during rush hour.

The lane closures are needed to install catch basins and sewer pipes that will connect to the 60-inch storm sewer that was recently installed underneath the median.  These additional catch basins will reduce the amount of surface water that accumulates on the roadway during heavy rainfalls.

Traffic control signs will be in place to guide travelers in the corridor through the new traffic pattern.  Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are urged to stay alert and use caution when traveling by the work zone.

Any questions regarding this work may be directed to the Public Outreach Coordinator, Chancee` Lundy, at  202-630-9353 or  clundy@nspiregreen.com.
