Bloomingdale resident Chuck VanSant: volunteer with Reading Partners

See this message from Bloomingdale resident Chuck VanSant:

I am a Bloomingdale resident, and a Reading Partners volunteer at Amos/Butler school at 1st and P Sts. NW.  I also serve on the Reading Partners Volunteer Advisory Committee.  We are looking to increase the number of volunteers, and I'd like to post this opportunity on the Bloomingdale blog. Mathew Bader suggested that I contact you about this possibility.

Reading Partners has been an incredible experience for me.  Forming meaningful connections with the students and witnessing and helping along their progress is powerful.  I also appreciate that I am able to serve at a school in my neighborhood...it's the act locally part!

Below is the information about Reading Partners as well as how to get involved.
Be a Hero: Volunteer with Reading Partners!
Can you share one hour each week with a student who is struggling to read?  Become a Reading Partner today!

Reading Partners is a nonprofit organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to students who are struggling with reading. Tutors use a research-based curriculum, and program staff regularly assess students to benchmark and monitor student progress.
Devoting just one hour each week to a student can make a tremendous impact. Last year, 99% of Reading Partners’ DC students improved their rate of learning in reading, and 90% narrowed their achievement gap. This year, Reading Partners is partnering with 11 local district and charter elementary schools and is opening opportunities for 600 students living in economically disadvantaged communities.
