For new residents -- the AFRH site is located due north of Bloomingdale and the Washington Hospital Center -- straight up 1st Street NW.
Developers will get another shot at redeveloping part of the Old Soldiers' Home in Northwest D.C., more than five years after another effort to remake the campus fell through.
The Armed Forces Retirement Home plans to hold an industry meeting on Wednesday to unveil details of the offering, an 80-acre site near Catholic University that is likely to draw strong interest from developers in the D.C. region. The AFRH is working with the General Services Administration and experts from JLL, Stantec and Preserve/Scapes on the prospect, which is aimed at generating additional operating income for the retirement home and making use of an underutilized part of the 272-acre campus.
The campus, by Irving and North Capitol streets in Northwest D.C., is the nation's oldest continually operating retirement home for enlisted military personnel and would continue to operate under the proposal.

You know, what a coincidence that we happen to have an unprecedented sewer infrastructure project happening right before they want to develop this 80 acre property along with 25 acre lot at the McMillan Sand Filtration site. And get this, both the properties happen to be at a higher elevation AND in the same sewershed! What great timing! Amazing luck those developers have.
