Six things to know about El Camino, opening soon in Bloomingdale

El Camino, the much-anticipated new Mexican joint from 1905 owners Tony Lucca and Phil Rodriguez, will soon be serving tacos, tortas and tequila in Bloomingdale, on the same block as Boundary Stone and Showtime and around the corner from the Red Hen. It's a labor of love for the two men, who both live in the neighborhood. (Rodriguez has been there for a dozen years, Lucca says, while he's a more recent arrival from Logan Circle.) "Phil and I, we enjoy being part of the community," Lucca says. "One of the reasons we've survived at 1905 is because we've gotten involved in the neighborhood."
Here's what you can expect from their new venture.
First things first: There's no opening date yet.
The owners are shooting for the first week of November, but they don't want to commit to a date yet. They're still waiting on inspections and permits, and once those are in hand, they plan to spend a week or so training staff and perfecting recipes, since they haven't been able to use the equipment in the restaurant's kitchen yet. "It's been a two-and-a-half, three-year process [to open], so I'd rather not rush just to open four days earlier," says partner Tony Lucca. "We're close." The decor needs some finishing touches, too.
