Arrest Made in Multiple Sexual Assault and Robbery Cases





(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit announced an arrest has been made in five known Assault with Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Abuse and Robbery Force and Violence cases.

  • Assault with the Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Abuse and Robbery-Force & Violence incident which occurred in the 200 block of 8th Street, Southeast, on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, between 10:30 pm and 10:45 pm. CCN: 15-188-289 
  • Robbery-Force & Violence offense which occurred in the 1300 block of Ives Place, Southeast, on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at approximately 9:15 pm.  CCN: 15-888-801 

  • Robbery-Force & Violence offense which occurred in the 900 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at approximately 10:35 pm.  CCN: 15-191-819 

  • Assault with Intent to Commit Third Degree Sexual Abuse and Robbery-Force & Violence incident which occurred in the 100 block of Seaton Place, Northwest, on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, between 7:22 pm.  CCN: 15-204-138

  • Robbery-Force & Violence offense which occurred in the 700 block of H Street, Northeast, on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 1:00 am. 15-208-163 

On Friday, January 15, 2016, 25 year-old Melvin Dehardt Latney of Southeast, DC, was arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Abuse, Assault with Intent to Commit Third Degree Sexual Abuse, and five counts of Robbery.
