Ward 5 Report: Join the fun at Ward 5 Day - Saturday, September 14

Neighbors,

As we wrap up a busy and fun-filled summer, I invite you to celebrate with me at Ward 5 Day on Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm on the east side of Langdon Park (we'll be on the east end of the park, along Mills Avenue NE). We will have free food, games, bounce house and activities for children, and over 25 organizations and local businesses will be there. There will be performances from DJ Analyze, the Phelps High School marching band, Beacon House cheer team, Capoeira martial arts studio, and a special guest band.

My staff and I will be collecting back to school donations for our teachers during Ward 5 Day. Often times teachers don’t have everything they need to equip their classrooms and end up spending their hard-earned money to purchase supplies. This year I plan to surprise some Ward 5 elementary school teachers with school supplies, board games, puzzles, cleaning supplies, and more.  Join us in our effort by bringing donations of these items to Ward 5 Day. Make sure to sign up for the spades tournament where we will be going by “official rules.” I have invited my colleague Councilmember Robert White to join and determine who will have bragging rights in the Wilson Building. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place.

I hope to see you and your family there on September 14. Don't forget to RSVP.

In service,

Kenyan

Growing up in DC, Councilmember McDuffie played sports and attended programs at the Kingman Boys and Girls Club near Logan Circle. So it was personal when he joined the club earlier this month to celebrate its 50th anniversary and present them with a ceremonial resolution from the DC Council. Read about it in the AFRO
