A beautiful small oil-on-board  painting, "McMillan with Howard Chapel," the only work taking McMillan Park for its subject,  won not only first prize in the "non-photographic" category, but also best in show.

The painting is by Elaine Wilson,  who did several evocative graphic works of McMillan shown at last   year's exhibit. Ms. Wilson moved to Washington about three years ago from Michigan.

She says that McMillan Park first gained a hold on her when she came to D.C. to visit her son, who had an apartment with a view of the park.  Her fascination with McMillan has not abated, and her works capture the character and sensory feel of this very magical public treasure and national landmark.

The painting does capture the open air feeling and the historicity of the red brick structures that you can (still) see in the park.
