Subject: Raising funds to help send Kathleen Rand Reed home

Dear Scott,

I would like to make an appeal to neighbors to help Kate Reed's family get her remains and effects sent to her niece in Arizona.  Could you post this request a few times over the next week towards the top of the daily e-mail?

Thanks,
John

My dear friend and Bloomingdale neighbor, Kathleen Rand Reed, passed away just before 4th of July at George Washington University Hospital.  She lived at 1923 2nd Street for a number of years before a massive fire on Martin Luther King Day 2011 destroyed almost all of her possessions, which in turn wiped out most of her savings.  Luckily, she was not home that day.

Kate was a beautiful person:  sharp, witty, insightful, ever-ready to extend a word or a hand to anyone in need.  Well, many of us in Bloomingdale give her a hand after the fire and now I am asking that we help Kate out one more time.

Her niece, Andrea, lives in Arizona and I am helping her have Kate cremated (Kate's wish) and have Kate's ashes and possessions sent to Andrea in Phoenix.  Andrea has set up a Paypal account to accept donations.  Her Paypal account e-mail is Spamombyandrea@yahoo.com.  That is a quick and easy way to make a donation. If you don't have a Paypal account, I will be glad to come by and pick up checks (made out to Andrea Cathey) and mail them to her.

I am going to start with a donation of $50 and will add $2 to my donation for every neighbor who donates.  I look forward to achieving our goal of raising $1,000.  Let show Andrea how Bloomingdale rolls when a neighbor needs a hand.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Thank you,
John

P.S. I'd also like to specifically thank Robert Brannum for all he and Sheila did for Kate in her final weeks and for keeping us informed about how he was doing.  Great job, Robert!
