MANGOSTREET Latency An egg falls. A moment passes. “Uh, oh, mommy!”  You imagine a yellow rocket ship landing with a messy splat. Latency: the interval between stimulation and response. Cause and effect. Us sending this email, and you reading it. How much time does it take for an idea to grow wings? Mango Street has been on the back burner for a few weeks while we have learned about sensory processing in children, but that simmering has been good for our neighborhood imaginarium. This latency has inspired us. The result? More tools to enliven or soothe our little ones’ senses. Snapshot of our Sneak Peek: At our Sneak Peek last month kids helped Felix the cat hide within their jumbly drawings, created fantastical monsters on the wall, and painted a multicolored brick road leading to an imaginary city.  Suspiciously life-like, child-sized, footprints in yellow paint appeared along that road! We provided the plan, the tools, and inspiration. They, their imaginations and playfulness. Let the wild rumpus start! What's coming next? Open Studio Weeks! Art Exploration. What road should you take if you don’t know where you're going? Take MangoStreet and enjoy the experience! Dates: Jul 31- Aug 3, Aug 6-10 Times: 10:30-12:30, 2:00-5:00 Note: you can register as a drop-in by the hour, or for a full session   Register We will have a number of self-directed art exploration activities for children ages 3-6, including sensory, drawing, color-based, and other.  We might even have an activity with no particular cognitive, social-emotional, speech/language, or gross/fine motor skill value (if we can find one!). Fall curriculum Special workshop:  Spin A Yarn of Kindness Aftercare: children ages 5 to 9, weekdays. Weekend workshops:  Kinetic Art, Exploratory Art, Bestiary Drawing, Selfies with props, others.
