Hello DC, this year by working with the DC Trust, North Capital/ Rhode island Ave. Ecumenical Council of Churches, the Metropolitan Police Department- Asst. Chief Groomes/ Commander Charnette Robinson/ Commander Andy Solberg, and having the support of our Ward 5 City Councilman McDuffie and others, we say a huge thanks for helping us provide to over 1200 children and youth from all wards of the city with school supplies. This number is double the number of kids who received school supplies last year. By working with our team, this year, we were able to sponsor three Back to School Rallies at three different locations/wards of the city. We want to also say a special thanks to our Randolph Place neighbors, for allowing us to close the street to disburse to over 754 kids and 485 parents at the first give away rally, school supplies see pictures below. These pictures show the kids and parents who were present at the Ward 5 world missions site. At the request of working with Asst. Chief Groomes, we were able to provide additional school supplies to 200 kids/families living in the Ward 8, Eagles Crossing Apartment public housing development. Additional supplies were also disbursed to families from the community, shelters and various wards in the city.
Other accomplishment made this summer included again partnering with DOES in working with over 200 youth in our job Readiness work sites which were hosted at 6 different works-sites; and having the youth in our program author a book titled: To tell the TRUTH: Advice for Life for Teens and Adults presently being sold on Amazon is encouraging. Please check our website(WWW.EXTENSIONCENTER-DC.ORG) out for more details about our first book which was released in August. To this end we now look forward to working with children and parents in both of our programs which are geared towards empowering both parents and children with skills needed for success in school and in life.
