D.C. Streetcar Small Business, CBE, and DBE Informational Briefing
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting an informational briefing on the D.C. Streetcar 22-Mile Integrated Premium Transit System (IPT) to find out opportunities that may be available for CBEs, DBEs, and Small Businesses. The IPT system will be comprised of a 22-mile streetcar system under a design, build, finance, operate, and maintain (“DBFOM”) framework, as well as operation and maintenance services for a premium non-regional bus system within the District, including the provision of buses, storage and maintenance facilities.
The briefing will be held on Thursday, August 15th from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Washington Renaissance Hotel’s Renaissance Room, located at 999 Ninth Street, N.W. DC Health Link Announces Broker Training Sessions
The DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority announced eight in-person training sessions for insurance brokers who will be selling coverage through DC Health Link, the new online health insurance marketplace being created for District residents and small businesses. To participate, brokers must reside in the District and have a DC resident license or reside and be licensed in Maryland or Virginia with a non-resident DC license. All trainings are being provided at no cost to brokers from DC, MD, and VA through 2014.

Reminder: Volunteers Needed for the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington
On August 28, 2013, individuals from across the country will converge upon the District to commemorate and celebrate the historic March on Washington, which occurred 50 years ago on August 28, 1963. The Mayor’s Committee on the 50th Anniversary March on Washington is seeking volunteers. If interested, please contact Reginald Greer at reginaldwgreer@gmail.com or call 940-704-7692.
For those between the ages of 15 and 22, there will be a Youth Ambassador corps that will help to greet and host out of town visitors, providing directions and information about the event. All volunteers will receive special t-shirts and credentials.
Reminder: DCPS Beautification Day 2013
Beautification Day will be held this year on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) event was established in 2005 as a citywide “spruce up” of all D.C. public school buildings in preparation for the first day of school. Beautification efforts will include landscaping, trash pick-up, light painting, planting flowers, and other external beautification efforts. Volunteers and supplies are needed at over 100 schools.
