Glover Park is finally ready to go full force- all volunteer shifts are graciously staffed by yoga lovers in the neighborhood, and the teacher schedule is set. We're celebrating with a special deal to welcome you - five classes at Yoga District Glover Park for $30 valid for one month - the link to purchase the deal, on sale today only, is on ourFacebook page, which you should "like" to stay up to date with other Facebook-friend deals. If you're wondering why we opened a Glover Park location, it's because so many of our yoga teachers live there. They wanted a studio in their neighborhood, so when a space opened up we worked together to make it happen. In the meantime, a national corporate yoga chain funded by the multi-billion dollar investment firm Catterton Partners has decided to open up a few doors down from us in Glover Park. Wow! We welcome the chain and we're looking forward to lots of yoga in Glover Park! 

Funky Mats?
There's a new punchy scent in the air at the studios. Don't worry-it's vinegar. Pardon the smell, but we're going totally eco and cleaning everything, including rental mats, with this awesome vinegar solution that kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mould and 80% of germs on contact. Vinegar is all-natural, so t's better for you and the mats. Also, please remember to secure your mat in a mat bag or mat strap if you store your mat at any of the studios. We're always happy to store your mats for free, but we're running out of space. Any mats left that don't have a note affixed to them stating their date of last use will be donated to Yoga Activist on September 1st. Mats donated to Yoga Activist are loaned to yoga outreach programs to underserved communities. These mats have gone as far as refugee camps in Haiti and communities in Tibet, and as close as soup kitchens, shelters and schools in DC.  

Sweating at I Street
If you've been hotter than usual during your asanas at I Street- and you didn't sign up for heated class- you might be wondering what's going on. Well, apparently our repairman forgot about karma and stole the hard-earned money we gave him to fix our air conditioning system. While we're trying to recover the thousands we gave him, if you can, please consider donating online to help us fix the air conditioning system for the comfort of our I Street studio-goers. In the meantime, please enjoy I Street's AC window units, the breeze from open windows, or the added benefit of cleansing sweat during your classes at I Street. DC's summer heat is just another opportunity to practice contentment when things are beyond our control, going with the flow of life.  Thanks for your kind understanding and for flowing with us.

You also may have noticed the recently-announced $1 price increase for our drop-in classes. Did you know that the increase helped us to give all of our staff a raise and allows us to give our senior teachers with benefits paid time off? Paid time off is a right we can all agree on! Please continue to support the studios and your teachers by attending their classes and adjusting to this small change. This one dollar makes a huge difference to us! 

 
Get 500-Hour Teacher Training Certified
Join us for our newest 500-hour teacher training. Led by all-star teachers including Kat, Marie Belle, Bernie, Jasmine, Aqeel, Kelly, Hannah, and Mike Graglia. This certification is designed for those teachers who are already 200-hour certified. Whether you want to deepen your own practice and knowledge or advance your teaching skills, the 500-hour training will allow you to distinguish yourself as a teacher and build your confidence in advanced applications of yoga. You will be more prepared to work with a wider variety of students, including those needing modifications or those needing amplifications. Classes will be held the final weekend of each month for six months, starting October 26th

Conferences Galore, Learning More 
Jasmine has been busy this summer representing Yoga District and Yoga Activist at yoga conferences. Back in June, she spoke at the Yoga Service Conference in New York, focusing on bringing mindfulness to serving under-served communities. Next month, join her at the  Business of Yoga conference Aug. 8-10, here in DC. This conference is aimed at supporting yoga professionals- both studio owners, independent teachers, and yoga enthusiasts. With more than 30 sessions, dynamic asana practices and up to 12 hours of continuing education credits, you will have a great time connecting with the local and national DC yoga community at this conference.

Mysore by Marie Belle - By Donation at H Street Starting Tuesday 

We're pleased to introduce a series of by-donation Mysore classes at the H Street Yoga District in the Mysore tradition led by Senior Yoga District teacher Marie Belle. In this tradition, you will practice Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in a self-paced class without vocal guidance except for direct teaching from teacher to student. Each student will work at his or her own pace and progress through the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga series one posture at a time. Focus is on slowly acquiring full variations of poses. Typically students stop at the pose that is inaccessible for them and finish the series at that point so not to agitate or cause any imbalance or unnecessary stress on the body. Practices can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Students enter at staggered times. This practice is all levels! In order to get the most out of this practice, we highly encourage students to attend led Ashtanga classes as well. Suggested donation $10-$30.
